Magic Balloon

What happens when you stick a needle in a balloon? Right, it bursts. But is it possible to enchant the balloon in such a way that it does not burst despite the prick of a needle? In this experiment, we'll show you how to do it.

Materials you need for this experiment:

balloon

This is your main prop in this magic trick.

needle

The bad guy in the trick that will finally be the murder of your balloon.

duct tape

The actual magic in the trick

How to perform the experiment as a magic trick in front of an audience :

This trick needs some preparation before your audience arrives. First you have to inflate the balloon and knot the end so that no more air comes out. Then you stick a small piece of duct tape on the spot where you later want to stick the needle into the balloon. Make sure that the edge of the tape is as clean as possible so that you don't see any edges of the tape and carefully brush any air bubbles under the tape (as seen in the picture on the left) outwards.

Then you can position the balloon somewhere on the table and let your audience come in. Make sure there is a little distance between the table with your utensils (balloon) and the audience. You should also make sure that the lighting does not reflect off the tape that could give away your trick. If you've done everything right, the tape will be practically invisible on the balloon (especially if you make sure, that the side with the tape points away from the audience).

Now you can ask your audience what will happen if you stick a needle in the balloon. Everyone, of course, will answer that the balloon will burst. This is your big moment where you surprise your audience and tell them that you can make the balloon invulnerable.

Wave your hand in a circle over the balloon a few times and cast a spell (use your imagination). Then stick the needle into the balloon where the tape is. The audience will be surprised that the balloon does not burst and assume that it is made of a plastic that cannot burst in principle. Now, to add to the surprise, you pull the needle out again and tell them you're undoing the spell. You wave your hand over the balloon a few times again and say a spell. Then you stick the needle into the balloon again, but this time in a spot without tape, and the balloon will burst. With that you proved that the balloon was a completely normal balloon, which, like all balloons, bursts when you stick a needle in it and only your magic power protected it beforehand. At the same time you have also removed the traces of how your trick worked.
