There are different ways to make magic ink. We'll look at a slightly lesser-known one in this experiment.
The highlighter can cause color stains on clothing and furniture. |
Materials you need for this experiment:
yellow highlighter | Preferably use a highlighter pen that you can take apart and that has a refillable color cartridge. |
UV-light | Many LED flashlights now also have an additional UV LED. Alternatively, you can use a banknote validator with UV light. |
white paper | Some paper to write on and try out the secret ink. |
How to make the experiment:
| |
If you have washed out the highlighter properly, it will no longer write yellow, but will appear to only write with water. The water in which you washed it now contains all the color. If you have white cut flowers, you can put them in the water and the next day the flowers will glow under UV light.
Now you can write with the prepared luminous pen and you won't see anything in normal light. If you still see a hint of yellow, it's better to wash out the pen and then try again.
If you look at the written sheet under UV light, the writing can be made visible. |
You can try other colors of highlighter pens, or use the remaining water in which you washed the pen to see how much you can dilute it so that it can still be seen under UV light.
Have fun experimenting!
